About GSU-Japan
Ghana Students' Union Japan is a community of Ghanaian students, researchers and alumni across Japan. We help one another settle in, study well and grow, while keeping our Ghanaian identity close.
Our story
GSU-Japan began around 2016 as a small circle of Ghanaian students who did not want any newcomer to face Japan alone. Shared meals, practical advice and plenty of encouragement turned that circle into a union with members at universities across the country.
In 2022 our members adopted a constitution that put our purpose into words: to promote the academic and general welfare and the professional development of Ghanaian students in Japan, and to be their voice here.
Ten years on, we host an annual academic symposium and end-of-year party, cultural showcases and online talks, and we work closely with the Embassy of Ghana in Japan and partners in academia and industry. In 2026 we celebrate our 10th anniversary, and the next decade starts now.

Our mission
To promote the academic and general welfare and the professional development of Ghanaian students in Japan, and to build a community where every member feels supported, connected and proud of who they are.

How we are organised
GSU-Japan is led by an elected executive board of five: the President, Vice President, Secretary, Organizing Secretary and Financial Secretary, who each serve a one-year term. Regional organisers help connect members across Japan, and a Patron, a respected member of the Ghanaian community in Japan, advises the union.
Every student member can vote and stand for office. When members graduate, they stay part of the family as alumni members.
